MENA – Jim McWilliams, APRN, is now seeing patients at Healthy Connections Ouachita River Health Center on the Acorn School campus in Mena.

McWilliams, who has been practicing in the Mena area since 2011, is a family nurse practitioner. He is a veteran and also specializes in issues related to veterans and military service.

“I’m a Navy veteran and I’m in the American Legion,” McWilliams said. “I was the veterans’ provider from 2013 to 2017 as a contract provider with HealthStar Physicians.”

McWilliams will see patients at the Healthy Connections locations at 139 School Lane, Mena, which is located on the Acorn campus. 

After a 10-year Navy career, he spent 16 years as a Registered Nurse in the Philadelphia Area. He completed his Master of Science in Nursing in 2010 as a Clinical Nurse Specialist with a concentration in adult health. After moving to Arkansas, he completed a post-master’s degree with the Family Nurse Practitioner program at UAMS.

APRN’s diagnose and treat illnesses, and are able to order and interpret tests, write prescriptions, and do many common in-office procedures. They have a focus on wellness and preventative care and work in partnership with their patients.

He worked with Health Star Physicians before assisting in opening the First Care Family Health and Walk-in Clinic in Mena.

Healthy Connections, Inc., was founded in 1998 as a home visiting program and now operates nine clinics throughout Southwest Arkansas. Depending on location, services include primary and preventative medical care, general dentistry, pediatrics, behavioral health, physical therapy and cardiology.
