Healthy Connections Welcomes Dr. Maazullah Khan, DPM, and the Return of Podiatry Services

Healthy Connections is expanding specialty care with the addition of Dr. Maazullah Khan, DPM, and the return of podiatry services at the Hot Springs McAuley clinic. This expansion strengthens access to foot and ankle care for patients in Hot Springs and surrounding communities, where podiatry services have long been limited despite growing need.

Foot and ankle health plays a critical role in mobility, independence, and overall quality of life. Pain, wounds, deformities, and untreated conditions can quietly limit daily activity and lead to more serious complications over time. Yet podiatry remains one of the most underserved medical specialties in Arkansas, making timely access to care especially important.

“Expanding podiatry services allows us to better support patients whose overall health depends on mobility and prevention,” said Tony Calandro, CEO of Healthy Connections. “By adding podiatry at our Hot Springs McAuley clinic, we are strengthening care coordination for patients who already rely on us for primary and chronic care, and closing a critical gap in specialty access within our communities.”

A Focus on Mobility, Function, and Quality of Life

Dr. Khan provides comprehensive podiatric care for a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, including bunions, hammertoes, plantar fasciitis, fractures, wounds, and diabetic foot complications. His services also include diabetic and high-risk nail care, ingrown toenail management, corns and calluses, and advanced wound care.

At the core of Dr. Khan’s approach is a clear priority: helping patients stay mobile and pain-free so they can continue living active, independent lives.

“I try to maintain my patient’s ability to ambulate pain free so that they can continue to do all the things they want to do in life,” Dr. Khan explained. “Sometimes this means using limb salvage techniques or performing a minor amputation to avoid a larger amputation. Other times, it’s something as simple as managing an ingrown toenail that’s causing significant pain and limiting someone’s ability to walk comfortably.”

This practical, outcomes-focused mindset reflects the everyday reality of podiatry care, where early intervention can often prevent long-term complications and preserve independence.

Advanced Training and Specialized Expertise

Dr. Khan earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM). He completed a four-year residency at East Liverpool City Hospital in East Liverpool, Ohio, where he received extensive training in wound care, limb salvage, fracture management, deformity correction, and minimally invasive surgical approaches.

That depth of training allows Dr. Khan to evaluate conditions carefully and recommend the most appropriate level of care, whether conservative management, in-office treatment, or surgical intervention.

“There’s nothing more rewarding than having a patient who’s scared they might lose their limb come in and being able to help save that limb,” he said. “Being able to preserve mobility and independence for someone is incredibly impactful.”

Dr. Khan performs many procedures directly in the clinic, such as ingrown toenail treatment, while coordinating hospital or outpatient care for more complex conditions like fractures or bunion correction when needed.

Why Podiatry Matters for Diabetic Patients

For patients living with diabetes, podiatric care is especially important. Diabetes can affect circulation and nerve function in the feet, increasing the risk of wounds, infections, and delayed healing that may go unnoticed without regular monitoring.

“Sometimes this is simply performing diabetic foot exams on a scheduled basis to make sure a high-risk patient is on the right path,” Dr. Khan noted. “Those routine visits can help prevent situations where an amputation becomes necessary.”

By offering podiatry services within Healthy Connections, patients benefit from coordinated care that connects foot health with primary care and chronic disease management, helping address issues early rather than react later.

A Strong Fit with Healthy Connections

Originally from Fenton, Michigan, Dr. Khan completed his education and residency training in Ohio before relocating to Arkansas to be closer to family. He was drawn to Healthy Connections because of its community-focused mission and its commitment to expanding access to specialty care.

“Podiatry is a massive need, especially in Arkansas,” Dr. Khan shared. “There are very few podiatrists serving a large population, and that lack of access affects patients every day.”

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Khan enjoys hiking, mountain biking, card games, video games, and baking sourdough bread. He is also proud to be the first doctor in his family.
