In every Arkansas community, there are organizations quietly working behind the scenes to keep people healthy, safe, and connected. They may not make the headlines every day, but their impact is undeniable. They are our nonprofits — mission-driven organizations that put service before profit — and today, on National Nonprofit Day, we recognize the vital role they play in building stronger, healthier communities.
At Healthy Connections, we are proud to stand alongside this network of changemakers. For more than 25 years, we have served as a Federally-Qualified Health Center (FQHC), delivering quality medical, dental, and behavioral health services throughout Western and Central Arkansas. As a nonprofit healthcare provider, our mission is not about the bottom line — it is about removing barriers, expanding access, and providing compassionate care for everyone, regardless of their circumstances.
The Power of Nonprofits in Building Stronger Communities
Nonprofits address challenges that impact everyday life — from hunger and housing to literacy, healthcare, and beyond. They step into the gaps where traditional systems cannot keep up, offering solutions tailored to local needs. In Arkansas, nonprofit organizations have been instrumental in tackling food insecurity, offering safe spaces for youth, and making healthcare accessible in underserved areas.
“When nonprofits thrive, communities don’t just survive — they flourish.”
These organizations also provide intangible benefits: building trust, fostering connection, and creating a shared sense of purpose. Whether it’s a volunteer helping a family through a crisis or a team organizing a community drive, nonprofits offer more than services — they deliver hope.
Healthy Connections: Affordable, Accessible Healthcare Without Barriers
As a nonprofit healthcare organization, Healthy Connections is uniquely positioned to address one of the most pressing needs in our region: access to quality care. Our three guiding pillars — Community, Compassion, and Excellence — drive every decision we make. We provide primary care, dental services, behavioral health therapy, medication management, OB-GYN services, HIV and Hepatitis C care, pediatric services, and more.
We believe healthcare should never be limited by income, insurance status, or geography. That’s why we accept Medicaid, Medicare, most private insurance plans, and offer a sliding-fee scale for qualified patients without insurance. Our providers live and work in the same communities we serve, ensuring we understand local needs at a personal level.
Our Impact by the Numbers
- Serving 20+ communities across Western and Central Arkansas
- Sliding-fee scale available for qualified patients in every clinic
- Caring for Arkansas communities for more than 25 years
Celebrating Our Community Contributions
This year, Healthy Connections continued to live out our mission both inside and outside the clinic. We hosted our annual Summer Cereal Drive, partnering with local organizations to help fight food insecurity during the summer months when children are out of school.
We were also honored to be recognized by the Difference Makers of Hot Springs for our ongoing efforts to expand healthcare access and make a measurable difference in the lives of Arkansans. These accomplishments reflect the deep connection between our organization and the people we serve.
A Shout-Out to Our Fellow Nonprofits
While we are proud of our own work, today is also about celebrating the many other nonprofits whose missions strengthen the communities we call home. From food banks and shelters to youth programs and advocacy groups, their dedication makes it possible for families to live healthier, more stable, and more hopeful lives.
We know that better healthcare outcomes happen when people also have access to nutritious food, safe housing, education, and community support — and those are the areas where other nonprofits shine every day.
Why Supporting Nonprofits Matters
The demand for nonprofit services continues to grow. Rising costs, workforce shortages, and complex community needs mean these organizations are often called to do more with fewer resources. Supporting them — through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word — helps ensure they can keep delivering life-changing services.
Choosing a nonprofit provider like Healthy Connections means choosing care that is mission-driven and people-centered. It means joining a tradition of healthcare that values prevention, education, and long-term wellness over profit margins.
