Why Cereal? The Simple Box That Makes a Big Impact

When it comes to fighting hunger, sometimes the simplest solutions make the biggest difference. That’s why cereal is at the heart of our latest community outreach effort. Healthy Connections is proud to participate in the THV11 25th Annual Summer Cereal Drive, an impactful statewide campaign benefiting the Arkansas Foodbank. We’re collecting boxes of cereal to support families across Arkansas who are experiencing food insecurity. Our goal is simple: to ensure that children and families in our communities have access to a nutritious, reliable breakfast throughout the summer.

Why Cereal?

Cereal checks all the right boxes:

  • Affordable: A cost-effective way to provide nutrition.
  • Shelf-Stable: Easy to store and distribute without spoilage.
  • Kid-Friendly: A familiar comfort food that makes mornings easier for both children and parents.

With a single box, you’re providing more than just food; you’re offering consistency, nutrition, and a sense of normalcy during uncertain times.

The Urgency of Summer Hunger

The need is more urgent than many realize. During the school year, thousands of Arkansas children rely on free or reduced-cost breakfasts and lunches through school meal programs. But when summer break begins, those reliable meals disappear. Parents are left scrambling to fill the gap, and food pantries often see a spike in demand. Cereal becomes a vital staple—easy to prepare, easy to distribute, and beloved by kids of all ages.

Healthy Connections’ Commitment

Healthy Connections has always been committed to supporting our communities beyond the walls of our clinics. Our mission is rooted in compassion, community, and excellence—values that align perfectly with the purpose of the Summer Cereal Drive. We’re not just collecting cereal; we’re raising awareness about hunger in Arkansas and taking direct action to make a difference. Our team members, providers, and patients are stepping up to fill donation bins with cereal that will go directly to families in need through the Arkansas Foodbank’s network.

How You Can Help

The deadline to donate is June 15, and every box counts. Whether it’s a single-serving pack or a family-size favorite, your contribution will help stock local food pantries and distribution centers at a time when demand is highest. We encourage individuals, families, and local businesses to get involved. Hosting a mini-drive at your workplace or neighborhood can multiply the impact.

Every Healthy Connections clinic location across Western and Central Arkansas is an official drop-off site for this drive. That means no matter where you live, there’s a convenient location nearby where you can make a difference. To find the nearest drop-off location, visit www.healthy-connections.org/locations.

A Record-Breaking Goal

In 2024, the THV11 Summer Cereal Drive collected 255,510 boxes of cereal, thanks to the generosity of Arkansans. This year, the goal is even more ambitious: 500,000 boxes to help feed children and families in need. Your donation can help make this goal a reality—by donating at your nearest Healthy Connections location, you’re helping both statewide and in your local community.

Join Us in Making a Difference

We invite you to be part of this movement. Drop off your cereal donations at any Healthy Connections clinic between now and June 15. Together with THV11 and the Arkansas Foodbank, we can turn a simple box into a powerful tool for health, hope, and hunger relief.

At Healthy Connections, we believe in being more than just healthcare providers. We are partners in wellness, advocates for our neighbors, and leaders in compassionate community care. Join us in showing Arkansas what it means to care.
